West Bromwich Albion poised to bid for Robert Green and Shane Long

West Bromwich Albion are expected to table a bid for the West Ham United goalkeeper Robert Green this week and the Midlands club are also interested in signing Shane Long from Reading. Green, who is eager to leave West Ham, is also on Newcastle United's radar but a move to The Hawthorns is likely to appeal more to the England international. Albion have turned their attention to Green after being priced out of a move for Ben Foster, the Birmingham City goalkeeper. Long, who scored 25 goals for Reading last season, would also stretch Albion's transfer budget, with the Championship club likely to demand more than £8m for the 24-year-old striker. Roy Hodgson, however, is keen to sign the Republic of Ireland international and has registered his interest. Much now depends on whether Jeremy Peace, the Albion chairman, will sanction a bid for the striker, who is also being tracked by Everton, Newcastle and Sunderland.
