Football news in brief
Manchester City Carlos Tevez has been warned he faces the possibility of his contract being suspended if he does not return to Manchester City in the coming days. Tevez flew to Argentina last week without permission and has refused to tell City when, or if, he plans to return. City have brought in their lawyers and Gordon Taylor, the Professional Footballers' Association chief executive, believes the club may decide to stop paying the striker's £250,000-a-week wages. "If he's not coming back the club can suspend his contract while there is a proper inquiry," he said. Daniel Taylor Paris St Germain The club's sporting director, Leonardo, has dismissed suggestions that David Beckham is too old at 36 to play in the French league. Leonardo said he has "had contacts" with the LA Galaxy player whose contract expires next month. Leonardo told L'Equipe: "Have you seen him play recently? I know him really well. If he couldn't [play at this level] he wouldn't come." AP Cameroon The Cameroon captain, Samuel Eto'o, and his team‑mates went on strike and refused to travel for a friendly against Algeria, saying they have not been paid appearance money promised to them by their national federation. The players refused to travel from Morocco to Algiers for Tuesday's match after complaining for a week that their federation had not fulfilled promises over regular payments owed to them to join the national team. The Algerian federation cancelled the match and said it deplored the situation, calling it "unacceptable and anti-sporting". AP
