Aberdeen's Scott Vernon starts the rout against woeful Kilmarnock
Aberdeen eased to an emphatic 5-0 victory over a disappointing Kilmarnock at Pittodrie. The Dons opened the scoring when Scott Vernon's shot squeezed past Cameron Bell after 15 minutes before Sone Aluko added a second goal with a low drive 10 minutes later. The home side controlled proceedings against a shellshocked Killie, with Chris Maguire, eager to add his name to the scoresheet, volleying wide before Mohamadou Sissoko did well to intercept an inviting ball into the penalty area from Ryan Jack, with Vernon lurking. Mixu Paatelainen made two changes for the visitors during the half-time interval with Manuel Pascali and Jamie Hamill introduced at the expense of Rui Miguel and Liam Kelly. The substitutions and a bold switch to a more attacking formation gave Killie fresh impetus and they dominated the early exchanges of the second period without managing to test Jamie Langfield. It was the Dons who added a third after 59 minutes when Maguire was brought down in the box by Frazer Wright and the striker sent Bell the wrong way from the spot. Things got even better for Aberdeen after 71 minutes when Aluko's cross to the back post was nodded across goal by Vernon for Rory McArdle to turn the ball home from close range. There was still time for Aberdeen to add a fifth after some more woeful defending by Killie when the substitute Josh Magennis pounced on an error by Garry Hay to drill the ball past Bell. Motherwell 's manager, Stuart McCall, picked up back-to-back wins as his side claimed a 1-0 victory over Hamilton in the Lanarkshire derby at Fir Park. A John Sutton penalty was enough to keep the hosts firmly in the hunt for a top-six place and intensify Hamilton's relegation fears. Sutton netted in the 36th minute after Martin Canning had held the striker in the box as the home side capitalised on a dominant first-half display. Jim McAlister missed a free header for Accies just after the break but the Steelmen finished the match on top to leave Hamilton five points adrift at the foot of the league. Hamilton have not won in the Scottish Premier League since triumphing at Fir Park in October and lacked a cutting edge, with Dougie Imrie out injured. Goals from Ross Tokely and Russell Duncan gave Inverness a 2-0 victory over St Johnstone , ending their 11-game run without a league win. Inverness, who had not tasted league success since beating Hibernian at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium 4-2 on 20 November, claimed their third home league win of the campaign. Tokely's powerful header from five yards opened the scoring after 28 minutes before Duncan sealed the victory with a close-range tap-in in the 62nd minute. Murray Davidson might have restored some pride for the visitors with 15 minutes to go but squandered an excellent opportunity. The midfielder had a free header which he nodded over the crossbar from a Danny Grainger corner. The Saints captain, Jody Morris, and Davidson linked up well moments later, with the latter firing over shortly before the substitute Arvydas Novikovas forced a diving save from Ryan Esson. The missed chances were in complete contrast to Caley Thistle's clinical finishing, with the game decided by their only two shots on target finding the net.
