Banksy shark nets £30k, Hirst doodle goes for £260
Barcode Shark, a Banksy canvas of a barcode in the shape of a shark, attracted the highest bid of £30,000 at an auction of contemporary art in Bloomsbury in London last night which raised £200,000 in sales, slightly below estimate. A Damien Hirst doodle of three friends who mistook the artist for the then Chelsea footballer Dennis Wise in a Soho bar failed to reach its estimate of £600-800, and sold for £260. A print by Julian Opie, Garry Pop Star, sold for £16,000. It portrays the musician Garry Cobain, half of electronic band the Future Sound of London, whom Opie once shared a flat with.
