Portugal's Euro 2012 victory over Czech Republic peaks at 10.1 million

The first quarter final in Euro 2012, Portugal's 1-0 win over Czech Republic , was watched by a peak of more than 10 million viewers on Thursday night. Portugal's win, which was sealed by a second half goal by Cristiano Ronaldo, averaged 7.9 million viewers (34.2%) across two and a half hours of coverage on BBC1. Live coverage of the match itself, which kicked off at 7.45pm, averaged 8.6 million viewers with a 15-minute peak of 9.9 million and a five-minute peak of 10.1 million. ITV1's crime drama repeat Lewis had 3.7 million viewers, a 15.7% share, between 8pm and 10pm. Elsewhere, Marco Pierre White's Kitchen Wars on Channel 5 had 700,000 viewers, a 2.8% share, between 8pm and 9pm. BBC2 came out on top in a three-way documentary battle at 9pm. The second part of Jacques Peretti's The Men Who Made Us Fat had 2 million viewers (8.5%) between 9pm and 10pm. It had the better of Channel 4's The House the 50s Built, which had 1.2 million viewers (5.2%), and the latest in Channel 5's Extraordinary People strand, The Boy They Call Fish, which also had 1.2 million viewers, a 5% share. It was followed on Channel 5 by Big Brother, which had 1.4 million viewers (8%), beating Channel 4's 24 Hours in A&E repeat, with 1.1 million (6.2%). All ratings are Barb overnight figures, including live, +1 (except for BBC and some other channels including Sky1) and same day timeshifted (recorded) viewing, but excluding on demand, or other – unless otherwise stated.
