New music: Orbital – Never
Having re-formed in 2009 after half a decade of solo experiments, brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, aka techno pioneers Orbital , are set to release their as yet untitled eighth album early next year, their first release since 2004's Blue Album . Never – mixed by Mark "Flood" Ellis, who has previously worked with U2 and the Killers – isn't exactly a giant leap from their signature sound, all flickering synths, warm waves of white noise and a propulsive beat that kicks in around the two-minute mark, but it's a good reminder of their influence. Given the pair took their name from the M25, so key to the early years of rave, it's appropriate the new video involves a sped-up car journey in and around London. As with the song itself, it all becomes strangely hypnotic the further you get into it. • Never can be downloaded for free from the band's official site . Orbital play the Royal Albert Hall in London on 10 April 2012.
