DVD review: The Box

If The Box seems like an extended episode from the 1960s episode of The Twilight Zone, that's because it is. Richard Matheson, best known for The Incredible Shrinking Man, wrote it as a six-page story for Playboy. But since the director is Richard Kelly, of Donnie Darko fame, the original poser – would you push the button if it earned you a $1m but someone you don't know died as a result – is the least weird bit. There are more nosebleeds than The League of Gentlemen, Frank Langella with part of his face missing, and a whole new subplot – about Cameron Diaz's deformed foot being replaced by her Nasa scientist husband – that turns out to be a true story about Kelly's Texan parents. Bonkers but entertaining.
