1948 Olympics: Day 3: Playing the Games
In London in 2012, one can hardly move without being confronted by a sign or advertisement for the 2012 Games - a far cry from the 1948 Olympics, when, as William Clark noted in his Olympic notebook in the Observer, "the most festive sign on the route announced 'Welcome to the Olympic Games, this road is a danger area.'"
