MTV launches the 'second British invasion'
The influence of MTV on the pop world is worthy of a tome in itself, but its initial impact was especially intriguing. During the station's early days they relied heavily on video-savvy British acts to fill airtime. This played a huge part in the "second British invasion", where groups such as Eurythmics and A Flock of Seagulls scored hits across the Atlantic. It took the "I want my MTV" campaign before MTV finally got its hands on New York and LA audiences, eventually growing into the behemoth it is today.
