Can train operators justify these fare rises?
Train fares are set to rise yet again in the new year, this time by an average of 5.9% – higher than the rate of inflation. The Association of Train Operating Companies said the increase in ticket prices is due to a higher demand and a commitment to improving services. Atoc chief executive Michael Roberts said: "Money raised through fares helps pay for new trains, faster services and better stations." Do you think another ticket price hike is a fair price to pay for an improved service? Have you noticed any improvement to your rail services over the past year? And will you still be able to afford to catch the train after the next fare increase?
