Dolls' houses: small but perfectly formed

Complete with tiny paintings on the walls, flowers in a vase and suitcases packed and ready to go, this is the stunning entrance hall to José Alesón's Victorian doll's house . Photograph: José Alesón Lady Alesón's bedroom is a tour-de-force recreation of an Edwardian interior, all rendered in perfect miniature. Photograph: José Alesón A whisky decanter and glasses sit on the table, ready to accompany a gentle game of cards. Alesón got a craftsman to render the cut crystal on the glasses for added authenticity. Photograph: José Alesón Alesón's doll's house is chock full of incredible detail. Here, minuscule spools of thread, a tiny thimble and a pair of scissors lie on a table in the maid's room. Photograph: José Alesón It looks like a real shop in a real street, but this is a fantastically detailed rendition of a Victorian shop by Ralph Keemar, a leading collector. Photograph: Petite Properties/Kensington Dollshouse Festival/ On an altogether grander scale is this exceptional recreation of the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. Its creator, Robert Dawson of The Modelroom, specialises in commisions for museums. Photograph: Robert Dawson Robert Dawson's work encompasses replicas of the Doge's palace in Venice, the Vatican and Catherine the Great's palace in St Petersburg. Here, he has recreated a bedroom in Neuschwabstein, one of Ludwig II of Bavaria's lavish castles. Photograph: Robert Dawson The exterior of Sarah Whitlam's fantasy castle scarcely hints at the wonders to be found inside. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam For starters, there's the snakeskin-themed kitchen. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam The castle comes complete with well-stocked bar. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam The bathroom features a bath raised on plinth that was inspired by one in the hotel where she works. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam Things start to get decadent when we come to the bedroom. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam If you're going to have a fantasy castle you might as well treat yourself to your own miniature tattoo parlour. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam And if none of that is enough, then satisfy your whims with this scaled-down bondage chamber. Photograph: Sarah Whitlam Like any serious collectors, Sarah Whitlam is at pains to recreate every detail, even down to the magazines in her bondage chamber – and the miniature sex toy on the table.
