Lauren Luke’s new season eye palettes

MAC eye shadow x4 in Burmese Beauty, £29. Lauren says: I love this quad – the quality of the eye shadows are perfect and the colours are great for this season. An all-round great buy. ★★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Bourjois Smoky Eyes Trio in Lady vert de gris, £7.49, widely available. Lauren says: Lovely-looking, indulgent chocolate shades, but not so good on. I needed primer to make them stand out, and even then there was no oomph. Decent price. ★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Dolce & Gabbana eyeshadow in Evocative, £22, 020-7730 1234. Lauren says: Gorgeous compact, but the overall package was disappointing. The pink was more of a dust-away blush effect and, once on, the colours weren’t great. ★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Estée Lauder Pure Color in Extravagant Gold, £34. Lauren says: A pricey compact, but I couldn’t recommend it enough. Five golden-brown shades that look just as good once they’re on. Comes with handy applicators, too. ★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Gosh eye shadow quartet in Modest Liberty, £9.50, Superdrug . Lauren says: Creamy colours that look amazing on. OK price, and I love the LED lights inside so you can see what you’re doing. Perfect! ★★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Suqqu blend colour eyeshadow #03, £38, 020-7318 3538. Lauren says: Lovely colours – all perfect autumn shades. Super-slick black compact. Very pricey, but comes with an applicator and mini brush. ★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian
