Channel 4 News deputy news editor Martin Fewell steps down

Channel 4 News deputy news editor Martin Fewell is to leave the programme after 14 years. Fewell, who worked with long-serving editor Jim Gray, who stepped down in June , was among those tipped to take over the top job. However, last month Ben de Pear, Channel 4 News's foreign editor, was named as Gray's replacement . "I'm immensely proud to have worked with such a strong and committed team at Channel 4 News and to have been deputy to a terrific editor like Jim Gray," he said. "The programme is in great shape, in great hands and it feels like the right time to try something new." Fewell joined ITN, which makes Channel 4 News, in 1998 as a programme editor and became deputy editor in 2002. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
