Newcastle sign Senegal striker Demba Ba on three-year contract

Demba Ba has signed for Newcastle United to become Alan Pardew's second signing of the summer, 24 hours after Kevin Nolan departed for West Ham United, the Senegalese striker's former club. Ba, who was also wanted by Everton, turned down an offer of £55,000 a week and a £500,000 signing-on fee from West Ham in order to become a free agent. Although the details of Ba's deal at Newcastle are yet to emerge, it is thought the terms will be similar to those offered by the Hammers. After signing from Hoffenheim in January Ba was one of West Ham's better players, scoring seven times in 12 Premier League appearances. The deal follows the arrival at Newcastle of the Lille midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
