Stan Tracey Duo/Trio: Sound Check – review

Clark Tracey has played drums in his father's bands since he was a teenager, but hitherto, apart from sound checks before concerts, their piano-drums duets have been purely private affairs. The duets occupying the first of these two discs were improvised, but such is the rapport between father and son that they emerge as nine perfectly polished, quirky miniatures. The second disc, with bassist Andrew Cleyndert added to complete the classic trio, demonstrates, yet again, Tracey's amazing creative energy and the depth of his imagination.
