Open thread: Who are the best on-screen couples?

What makes a great movie couple? Is it the chemistry between the actors, the intrigue of watching their love story unfold, or the seemingly inevitable pain of seeing it all fall apart in spectacular fashion? Whether your favourite couple is Clark and Lois , Rocky and Adrian , Rick and Ilsa or Jack and Ennis , let us know your reasons in the thread below. We're also keen to hear about new films you've been watching. Here's what some @guardianfilm followers had to say about movies they'd seen recently: @smfarmer530 Total Recall : Cool gadgets and nice visuals (cues taken from Blade Runner and Minority Report), but bland story and characters. @DaMisanthrope A Simple Life . HK cinema goes Ozu. Simple, tender observations and soulful but without sentimental schmaltz. @Frost_Ed Ted : It enjoys the high concept, but its potentially memorable nihilism is clipped by narrative conventionality. @JonahMayfield Ted – An unimaginative, dead-eyed concept brought to life by truly funny moments and likeable performances from the ensemble. @obsolesence God Bless America , 3.5/5, great humour and truth, unfortunately, and could be the UK if we had guns. @ChrisBoniello Nobody Walks is a great exploration of modern family dynamics, internal character drama and young adults seeking acceptance. • If you've seen any films in the past week, good or bad, let us know. You can either leave a comment in the thread below, or tweet your thoughts with the hashtag #gdnreview. We'll pick the best and show them off here once a week.
