Ian Paisley fitted with pacemaker
Northern Ireland's former first minister Ian Paisley has had an operation to have a pacemaker fitted. The founder of the Democratic Unionist Party had the surgery after taking ill at a meeting in the House of Lords last Wednesday. The 84-year-old, now Lord Bannside, was worked on by paramedics inside Westminster before being taken to St Thomas's hospital in London. His son, who succeeded his father as MP for North Antrim, said the doctors who treated him were exemplary. Ian Paisley Jr said: "It was very successful, he had it fitted and was discharged on Friday." Paisley Jr said his father was back at home at the weekend but has since returned to work.
