Kate Bush goes on her first and only tour

The 19-year-old Kate Bush had made an enormous impact when her first single, Wuthering Heights, topped the charts in 1978. She was musically unique and visually compelling. So her Tour of Life, which began in April 1979, was justly anticipated. It was less pop show than theatrical concept, with 13 people on stage, 17 costume changes and 24 songs – Bush assuming a different role for each. The tour – which lasted just six weeks – was so astounding it left people wondering how she would follow it. The answer? She never did. But might she ever? Fans might cling to the faint hope offered in a recent interview: "Maybe I will do some shows some day. I'd like to think so, before I get too ancient – turn up with my Zimmer frame."
