Top Cat competition: look-cat-like winners - in pictures
WINNER : Angela de Turberville: Her full name is Purrgeot StJohn Battenburg deTurberville, but we call her Purry Mcfurson for short. She is a fairly grumpy cat and when I asked her to pose for the camera she said "I'm not going to smile just because you are offering me a slice of my favourite cake." Photograph: Angela de Turberville Sent in by Eight Bit, this tiny kitten bears an uncanny resemblance to Dr Seuss's Cat in the hat. Plus it's ridiculously cute. Photograph: Everett Collection/Rex Features/Eight Bit Initially entered into the best catcessory category for his lion-like roar, we felt that Hobbes deserved to be in the Look-cat-like category instead for his awesome rendition of the MGM lion. Unlike her Star Wars doppleganger who's filled with wisdom, Parsley is usually filled with biscuits." Sent in by Tim Relf. What we said: "Parsley definitely has the low-slung ears and the thousand-yard stare - but does she have the force?" Photograph: Reuters/Susana Vera/Tim Relf "Mungo the cat as Jack Nicholson in The Shining." Sent in by Barry Quinn. What we said: "Barry has cleverly captured the essence of Jack Nicholson's homicidal maniac in his cat, Mungo." Photograph: Allstar/Cinetext/Warner Bros/Barry Quinn "My cat Asparagus looks just like Bungle from Rainbow!" Sent in by Laura Capes. What we said: "Yes, but where are Zippy and George?" Photograph: Graham Turner/Guardian/Laura Capes "I just thought that my cat Boni's love to pose should be if not awarded, at least noted." Ketevan Kantaria What we said: "Boni was entered in to the Cutest Cat category by Ketevan, but when we opened this photo we couldn't help but notice Boni's resemblence to pop phenomenon, Rihanna. Photograph: Michael Buckner/Getty Images/Ketevan Kantaria "We feel our Don Gato looks like David Niven in his younger years." Sent in by Rachel Atkinson. What we said: "There's definitely a debonair look to Don Gato, if only he had a martini to complete the look ..." Photograph: John Springer Collection/Corbis/Rachel Atkinson "This is Percy doing his best owl impression. Maybe his plan was to go undercover to woo some feathered friends into his mouth? Sadly though, I doubt it. He's the sweetest cat, but somewhat lacking in the brains department, and couldn't catch a cold if he tried!" Sent in by Emma Clifford-Roberts. What we said: "T-wit-t-woooooo!" Photograph: Getty Images/David Mcnew/Emma Clifford-Roberts "Ronan as Christopher Lee's Dracula: Prince of Darkness." Sent in by Sandra Jensen. What we said: "Ronan very obviously wants to suck our blood." Photograph: Alamy/Sandra Jensen "We wish to put our cat, The General Palto, forward for the Look-cat-like category. We think it is quite easy to spot that he is the spitting image of Leon Trotsky, the Marxist Revolutionary." Sent in by Leonor, Ben, Idil. What we said: "What's Russian for 'we quite agree'?" Photograph: Leonor, Ben, Idil "Ziggy Stardust and her porcelain doppelgänger hanging out." Sent in by Leah Curran. What we said: "We think everyone should buy pets to match their ornaments."
