Tottenham make approach for Internazionale goalkeeper Júlio César

André Villas-Boas has held talks with the representative of Internazionale's Júlio César as he looks to bolster his goalkeeping options for the coming season. The Tottenham Hotspur manager wants a new No1 and he has turned to César as he fears that Lyon's Hugo Lloris, who has been his top target, will prove to be too expensive. Villas-Boas has been careful to say the right things about the established trio of goalkeepers that he inherited upon taking the job last month but, ideally, he would like an upgrade on Brad Friedel, Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes. It is likely that Gomes will ask for a loan move. Villas-Boas met César's agent in London in the week and he knows that Inter want to sell the 32-year-old Brazil international, who earns £70,000 a week. Villas-Boas could offer one of his squad players in part-exchange. Tottenham's priority remains new blood up front, where they have only one established striker – Jermain Defoe – to call upon. The club are in negotiations to sign Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor and Internacional's Leandro Damião.
