Oh, brother: Will Smith considers Cain and Abel film

Will Smith looks set to reinvent his cheery everyman persona by signing up for the latest biblical epic to gain traction in Hollywood: the story of Cain and Abel. Deadline reports that Smith is "eyeing" the project, tentatively titled The Redemption of Cain, with which he is hoping to make his directorial debut as well as star. However, Deadline also suggested in 2010 that Smith was looking to produce a vampire version of the story, called The Legend of Cain , which has failed to materialise as yet. There is currently no word as to any writers attached to the project, but if it comes together, Smith will join Darren Aronofsky, Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott with studio-backed biblical epics in development. Aronofsky's Noah looks certain to be the first to go into production, while Spielberg and Scott's duelling Moses epics appear to be still at the drawing board.
