I'm being forced to pay for Santander's mistake
I took out a Debenhams store card, run by Santander, and spent £40. Neither the card nor a bill ever arrived, and I forgot about it. Eight months later I received a demand for £110 from a debt collecting agency. It transpired that someone had incorrectly transcribed my address and the mail had been going to the wrong house. Santander acknowledges the mistake and removed the £40, but I still had to pay £70 to the debt recovery agent.
