Luis Suárez should have been sent off, says Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney took to Twitter on Monday night to say that Luis Suárez should have been sent off on his comeback for Liverpool . The Uruguayan striker, making his return from a nine-match absence, caught Tottenham's Scott Parker in the stomach with a high boot just four minutes after coming off the bench. Suárez was booked for the challenge but Rooney felt the punishment should have been more severe. "If ref sees that kick from suarez and books him for it it should be red," tweeted the Manchester United striker. A predictable barrage of criticism followed, but Rooney defended himself against the charge of hypocrisy. "For everyone saying about my aggression i aint had 1 yellow card in premier league this season," he added. The former Manchester United defender Gary Neville concurred with his erstwhile team-mate, saying on Sky Sports that Suárez had been "lucky" to avoid a red card. The Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, though, refused to comment on the pair's comments. "Why don't you tweet Wayne back?" he replied when asked about the criticism. "I don't have a view on what they've tweeted, especially when I've not seen it. "If Gary Neville or Wayne were standing there and asked me the question I could answer them but I don't think you can speak for them. I think I'll just plead the fifth amendment." Dalglish was delighted by Suárez's return to first-team action. "For me, Luis Suárez doesn't have anything to prove to anyone at Liverpool," he said. "Every game he plays he is determined to make an impact. He is just that kind of person. "When you see him getting on the ball, you always think he is going to do something that will be beneficial to the team. Other than that, I don't know what else I can say." Dalglish, though, did add that he felt he should not have been without the former Ajax striker for such a long period. "We don't think he should ever have been away but we are delighted to get him back," he said.
