Time for Clegg to rethink on coalition

It's surprising that Nick Clegg should have "insisted the coalition remained strong" ( Miliband and Clegg call for tighter rules on media ownership , 18 July), when Cameron is now damaged goods and News International is shown to have been in effect a semi-attached subsidiary of the Conservative party. All this creates a new political context, in which the raison d'etre for Lib Dems to line up alongside the Conservatives is severely weakened. Is it not now right for the Lib Dems to reconsider their position? That operation's leader, Cressida Dick, who said she thought the Met had done nothing wrong, is to replace John Yates as head of anti-terrorist policing. Now that truly is a scandal.
