Met Police take IT deal to 2015

The service has prolonged the deal, which was signed in 2005 and set to run for seven years, to run until December 2015. Capgemini said the extension is valued at £193m over the extra three years, and will enable the Met Police to maintain agreed cost savings, estimated at £43m, and set budgets with greater certainty. It will also help Capgemini to plan the resources required to fulfil the requirements of the contract. The company will continue its partnership with its main subcontractors, BT and Unisys. BT's services include upgrading and rationalising the police service's voice and data networks, and Unisys supports application management, data centre hosting, desktop and server break fix. Some of Capgemini's support services will be moved to centres in the north of Scotland to provide savings, although the company says that all of its work under the contract will be carried out in the UK. It said it has plans for increased automation, improved joint processes and rationalisation of services. There will also be closer collaboration to streamline management control and simplify reporting structures.
