Various: The Sound of Club Secousse – review

At one remove from African acts whose albums engage western audiences are the dancefloor anthems of Dakar, Freetown and Harare, the tunes that rock the townships and ghettos. The music is an ever-evolving matrix of sub-genres – Ivory Coast's coupé decalé, Angola's kuduru, Cape Verde's funaná – but it's all fast, furious and studded with offbeat electronica. This package, assembled by two Club Secousse DJs from Afro-electro band The Very Best, is an introduction to platinum hits such as Bablee's "Sous les cocotiers" and Jusa Dementor's "Air Horn Dance" ( YouTube clip recommended ), and a glorious tumble through the sound of young Africa.
