The Week, Stylist, T3 and TES all double winners at PPA awards

The Week, Stylist, T3 and Times Educational Supplement were the biggest winners at the 2012 PPA UK magazine industry awards, with each title taking home two prizes. UTV Media's free weekly Sport took home the newly-created cover of the year award at Wednesday night's event in central London for an edition with Paul Gascoigne on the front. Another new PPA award, for diversity, went to IPC Media's Essentials magazine. Dennis Publishing's current affairs magazine The Week won consumer magazine of the year, while the title's Kerin O'Connor took home the award for publisher/manager of the year in the consumer sector. Stylist, the free weekly published by ShortList Media, won consumer media brand of the year. Stylist's Lisa Smosarski was named editor of the year, consumer media. Future Publishing's technology title T3 won international consumer magazine of the year and digital product of the year in consumer media. TSL Education's TES won business magazine of the year, while the title's website picked up digital/data product of the year. Sport's Gazza cover came top in a PPA online poll, with a Stylist front page featuring Nigella Lawson covered in salted caramel second and IPC Media's Wallpaper* third for a Kraftwerk cover. Equalities minister Lynne Featherstone, who presented the diversity award to Essentials, said: "By using real women on their covers instead of models and celebrities, they are an excellent example of a magazine promoting diversity of body image – a real issue that cannot be ignored." Other winners at the PPA awards, held at the Grosvenor House hotel and hosted by Miles Jupp, included Will Self, named consumer media writer of the year for his work for Hearst Magazines UK's Esquire. Martin Hilditch, who works for Ocean Media Group's Inside Housing, won business media writer of the year. Emma Penny, of Briefing Media's Farmers Guardian, was named business media editor of the year.
