New Cardiff Bay bakery opens

A new bakery in Cardiff Bay has opened its doors today with this week's proceeds going to local charity Ty Hafan. The Cardiff Bay Bakery , at 20 West Bute street, will sell homemade breads, cakes, pastries, salads, jacket potatoes and coffees – with the majority Welsh produce sourced locally. Owner Marcus Carino also runs the local fish and chip shop and this new venture is part of his endeavour to build a community around the street and encourage healthy eating practises. Carino also said he felt the Bay area was recovering from economic dark days – and a new local magazine The Penny Post was recently launched in the are to promote local businesses. Carino said: "We've enjoyed great success with the Atlantic Fish Bar (also on West Bute Street) and wanted to expand but stay local. "The tough trading conditions of the last two years have seen a couple of local cafes struggle or go under. "We're opening with a brand new concept of a local bakery serving local people. We're not like some of the big chains, as you'll see from our range of products and great service. "Part of being in the local community is giving something back. That's why in the week following our opening, we'll be donating all of our profits to Ty Hafan to help them in the great work they carry out in our area."
