In pictures: Chelsea v Sunderland

Following Arsenal's 2-1 win over Everton which moved them second in the Premier League, Chelsea hope to beat Sunderland to re-establish their dominance at the top of the table. As it's Remembrance Sunday, the players are led out by Chelsea Pensioners and Royal Guards Photograph: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC via Getty Images John Terry is missing from Chelsea's defence due to a back injury, so Paulo Ferreira and his team-mates will have their hands full as they try to thwart Sunderland's record-signing Asamoah Gyan Photograph: Adrian Dennis/AFP/Getty Images Sunderland boss the first half and, shortly before the break, a shot by Gyan is saved by Petr Cech ... Nedum Onuoha (pictured) then collects the ball on the edge of the box and proceeds to waltz through Chelsea's backline Photograph: Scott Heavey/Getty Images His speed and tight control completely bamboozle those in the home side who try to block his path ... Photograph: Scott Heavey/Getty Images And just as Branislav Ivanovic looks to foil him, Onuoha releases an angled shot which beats Cech and drifts into the bottom corner - it's a stunning goal, and no more than Sunderland's endeavour in the first half has deserved Photograph: Scott Heavey/Getty Images Boudewijn Zenden is quick to congratulate his team-mate, while the inquest begins between Cech and Ivanovic Photograph: Rebecca Naden/PA Seven minutes after the restart and Sunderland carve Chelsea open once more. Jordan Henderson, who has been called up to the England squad for the first time this week, plays an incisive pass to Gyan who slots the ball around Cech. Another wonderful goal. 2-0 to Sunderland, at Stamford Bridge! Photograph: Tony O'Brien/Action Images Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka looks stunned. They're being walloped today Photograph: Michael Regan/Getty Images Chelsea's manager Carlo Ancelotti looks glum (as ever). His side haven't lost at home for eight months and unless they do something quick, they're facing a crippling result today Photograph: Scott Heavey/Getty Images Three minutes from full-time, Sunderland are given a gift of a goal by Ashley Cole's horrendous backpass. The ball goes straight to Danny Welbeck, who tucks it into the far corner just as Cech pounces at his feet Photograph: Tony O'Brien/Action Images Cole can't believe it. But don't get any false impressions; Chelsea haven't gifted Sunderland the points, rather Steve Bruce's men have earned them. They've now had 17 shots on goal and played Chelsea off the park Photograph: Tony O'Brien/Action Images Welbeck and co celebrate the goal which caps an unexpected win. Unsurprisingly, Chelsea's fans have long since disappeared. 0-3 it ends - who would have thought it? Photograph: Akira Suemori/AP
