Fernando Torres pulls out of Spain squad with groin injury

Fernando Torres has pulled out of the Spain squad for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Lithuania and Scotland. It comes after the Liverpool striker was forced off after just 10 minutes of yesterday's defeat to Blackpool because of a groin problem. Torres was due to have a scan on the injury today, although Liverpool have not yet revealed how long he will be out for. "He has a groin strain, but I don't know how severe it is," the Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, said yesterday. "They [the medical team] are assessing it at the moment. It happened early in the game which came as a surprise to us. "We were not aware of any problems with the groin. I don't know if it happened during the course of the game when he stretched for the ball. I don't really know." Liverpool's first match after the international break, as they look to haul themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone, is the Merseyside derby against Everton on 17 October.
