Shaun McRae too unwell to take charge of Salford for a month
Shaun McRae will not take charge of Salford's match against Wigan due to medical advice. He will also be absent for the next month. The coach has been given time off to recover from illness and the club's football director, Steve Simms, and the assistant coach, Mal Aker, will prepare the team for the Super League tie against Wigan. McRae was verbally abused by Salford's fans after their 56-22 defeat against St Helens on 18 February. It meant the team had shipped 98 points in their two opening games. Despite appearing shocked, he vowed not to resign. Another Salford coach who is absent is the assistant Phil Vievers, who has returned to his family in Australia after a bereavement.
