Northern Ireland police arrest 11th man over dissident republican terrorism

Eleven men are in custody in Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic in connection with dissident republican terrorism. The latest arrest took place on Friday morning when a 34-year-old man was detained in north Belfast. He is being questioned by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's serious crime branch at Antrim police station. Meanwhile the Garda Síochána arrested 10 men in County Dublin on Thursday night as part of an investigation into the activities of dissident republicans. The arrests took place in the Balbriggan area at about 10pm. The men are being held at Santry, Swords, Blanchardstown, Pearse Street and Malahide garda stations. All of the arrests have come after a week of serious street disorder across Northern Ireland connected to the Ulster loyalist marching season. Dissident republicans have also warned of more threats to Britain. A convicted Continuity IRA prisoner told the Guardian this week that anti-ceasefire republicans still regarded England as a prime target in their armed campaign.
