New music: A*M*E – Play the Game Boy
Reading on mobile? Watch here We wrote about 18-year-old pop star in the making A*M*E earlier this year, with a dubstep-tinged remix of her first single, City Lights . Since then she's toured with Jessie J and JLS, and worked with Emeli Sandé's producer Naughty Boy on Find a Boy . The latter was co-written with Sandé, proving her songs don't have to be interminably dull. Now A*M*E has decided to indulge her obsession for all things k-pop in the video for new single Play the Game Boy. Produced by Norway's Electric, it's a return to the more effervescent electro-pop of her first singles and plays on the name of a handheld games console A*M*E probably isn't old enough to even remember. At a time when playful pop songs usually involve adults pretending to be teenagers (Carly Rae Jepsen and LMFAO), it's refreshing to hear someone genuinely having fun. The video – premiered here – opens with a life-sized doll version of A*M*E carried by four men in cropped purple wigs who then proceed to have a bit of a dance before becoming her own private photographers and hair stylists. The life of a young pop star is nothing if not glamorous. • Play the Game Boy is out on 5 November.
