53. Danny and Neil Rimer
Job: partners, Index Ventures Industry: venture capital Age: 41 (Danny), 48 (Neil) New entry The Canadian-born Rimer brothers are two of the driving forces behind the venture capital firm Index Ventures, which has invested in more than 150 companies including Facebook, Skype, Betfair and LoveFilm. Neil co-founded the company with another Rimer brother, David, and Giuseppe Zocco in 1996, and Danny joined in 2002. They sit on numerous company boards and launched a new €350m (£283m) fund for new tech startups this year. One of Europe's biggest investors in new tech companies, Index backed another firm with a boss in the MediaGuardian 100 – Asos – and, more recently, another online fashion phenomenon, Nasty Gal. Other partners in the business include LoveFilm co-founder Saul Klein. Danny Rimer, who last appeared in this list five years ago, is also on the board of BSkyB and is now based in San Francisco. He said: "London has become the centre for venture capital in Europe. This is the place to come when it comes to original, innovative business models."
