AC/DC recruits Brian Johnson
The death of Bon Scott in February 1980 did nothing to halt AC/DC. Instead, they recruited an iron-lunged geordie whose rolling around on stage while screaming had once impressed Scott (it turned out Brian Johnson had been trying to perform through appendicitis). Within a month of recruiting Johnson, the band decamped to the Bahamas to record Back in Black. To say it was a success is to understate matters: with 49m copies sold, Back in Black is the second bestselling album of all time.
