Matthew Maynard and Glamorgan settlement ends resignation row

Glamorgan have reached a settlement with their former captain Matthew Maynard following his resignation as the director of cricket last November, clearing the way for them to appoint the New South Wales coach Matthew Mott as his successor. Maynard resigned and described his position as "untenable" after Glamorgan appointed the former wicketkeeper Colin Metson to a new role as managing director of cricket, and signed the South African batsman Alviro Petersen to replace Jamie Dalrymple as captain. He had been taking legal advice over a potential claim for unfair dismissal but peace now appears to have broken out, with the former England batsman and assistant coach to Duncan Fletcher agreeing to the release of a joint statement with Glamorgan in which he wished the county luck for the 2011 season. However, the future of Maynard's son Tom remains unresolved. He has tried to resign from the three-year contract he signed with Glamorgan shortly before last autumn's upheaval in protest at the treatment of his father, but the county have refused to let him leave with Petersen leading their attempts to keep him in Cardiff.
