ECB resists calls to shorten county championship season but cuts T20

The England and Wales Cricket Board has resisted calls from the England set-up to shorten the county championship season from 2012. The ECB has instead chosen to cut the number of Twenty20 matches for each county from 16 to 10. However a final decision has not yet been made on the 40-over competition. The announcement follows a review into the make-up of the domestic game. The ECB chairman, Giles Clarke, said: "We are pleased to have agreed a range of measures which we believe will be to the long-term benefit of the county game in England and Wales. "The changes to our domestic structure are the product of an extensive and rigorous consultation process which has encompassed Team England, county players and coaches, county members and other key stakeholders within our domestic game."
