Jenson Button suffers qualifying frustration for British F1 Grand Prix
Jenson Button's wretched Silverstone run continued when he failed to make it into the second qualifying session for Sunday's British Grand Prix. In 12 previous Silverstones Button, the 2009 world champion, has not only not won but has failed to make the podium, with fourth his best place. His performance on Saturday was also a continuation of his slump in form since winning the first race of this season in Australia and coming second two grands prix later in China. The McLaren driver has had five disappointing races but nothing was as big a letdown as what happened now. He started his last-chance lap with 20 seconds of the opening session to go and failed to make it through by three tenths of a second, finishing 18th. He looked bitterly disappointed when he said afterwards: "I could not get any heat on the front tyres. I felt it straight out of the pits. I couldn't get any heat on the fronts and that is why I could not get a lap time on those tyres. "It is a pity but it definitely wasn't meant to be. The positive is that everyone else is going around for two more sessions on their tyres and it is going to rain tomorrow. "It is going to be very difficult for everyone but I will have better tyres. I would rather put on a much better show for fans on Saturday but it is the story of my year, not getting heat on the fronts, so I am not too upset. I know I can drive a car in the wet."
