Euro 2012: Robin van Persie is not the quickest, says Daniel Agger

Denmark's Daniel Agger has said he is looking forward to Euro 2012 starting this weekend, especially as he has spent the last three weeks talking about the striker facing him on Saturday night: Holland's Robin van Persie. "I have spoken about him every day for three weeks now," he said on Friday. "Now I am just happy the tournament is about to begin." Both players ply their trade in the Premier League, but the Danish defender was absent when Van Persie scored twice for Arsenal at Anfield in a 2-1 win in March 2012. Now they come face to face in Kharkiv on Saturday night in a tournament in which many experts are expecting Van Persie to win the Golden Boot. On Friday the Danish paper Ekstra Bladet asked Agger to assess Van Persie's strengths and weaknesses. "His speed? Well, he is not the quickest," Agger said. "He is not the slowest either. I don't know if I'd be able to beat him over 100 metres. We haven't tried that one yet." There was praise, however, for the Dutchman's positioning. "He is always at the right place and his runs are very good. And you have to give him that he has a good shot, a really good left foot. "His heading isn't his strong point. Of course, he is an all-round player so he can do most things, including heading. But some things, as it is for every player, are better than others." Agger added that the Danes are unlikely to be able to get Van Persie to lose his temper. "As long as we keep the ball he will struggle to create chances and that won't please him. But I don't think you can go up close to him and press him and irritate him. That is something he is used to all the time."
