Ever since the success of the Harry Potter series, it is all but impossible to find any books that aren't fantasy. My son likes stories set in the real world. Can you help? Post-Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, there certainly was a lot of fantasy, but there are many other kinds of books. While Potter and other fantasy sequences were flourishing, authors such as Anne Fine , Jan Mark, Keith Gray and Ally Kennen were writing entertaining family stories. It's also worth going back to books from an earlier era. Adventure lies at the heart of most children's fiction and before the world became terrified of children doing things on their own, these adventures took place in real settings.
