Is it still possible to buy decent walking boots?

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it's up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday's paper. This week's question: I've been looking for decent walking boots at around the £100 mark. Online reviews suggest the quality of the big brands has fallen badly. Is it now the case you just buy cheap and throw out after a year or two? Are the new fabric ones really waterproof? Help me solve my boot dilemma! What are your thoughts?
