The Daily Show: just the kind of high-quality US TV Sky is looking for. Or perhaps not

Perhaps a TV audience of 80,000 or a night doesn't sound very impressive. More4 clearly thinks that, and has canned Jon Stewart's Daily Show this bleak new year (leaving addicts with only a weekly round-up version to relish). But audience clout is measured by influence as well as brute numbers. If it wasn't, Mad Men wouldn't have stayed on air for long. So who – amid hundreds of channels – would like to pick up America's most feted (and sharply funny) TV satire? The obvious contender, because it's already bought up Mad Men and is busy collecting more upmarket US hits for a brand new channel, is Sky. Ah! Turn to the scourge of Fox News on the home of Murdoch … what a liberal sense of humour that would show.
