London 2012: Ed McKeever, the 'Usain Bolt of the water'
Ed McKeever, Britain's 28-year-old gold medal winner in the K1 single kayak 200m sprint, is known as the "Usain Bolt of the water". The trainee accountant from Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, is small, powerful and explosive with lightning-quick reactions and a total focus on perfection. His team-mate Richard Jefferies describes him as an "absolute animal" on the water. McKeever won gold in the 2010 World Championships in 2010 and topped the podium twice in his individual races at both the 2011 and 2012 World Cup series. These are momentous times for the athlete, who famously does not do pressure. After the Games, he is set to marry his fiancee, Anya Kuczha, a 26-year-old PE teacher he met while studying accountancy and finance at Kingston University. The couple plan to tie the knot on 22 September at a church in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, and McKeever says it will be large gathering because Anya is from a big Polish family. After that, there is just the matter of completing his accountancy exams.
