Wines of the week

Cramele Recas Paparuda Pinot Noir, Romania 2011 (£5.70, Adnams, 01502 727 272; £5.90, Tanners tanners-wines.co.uk ) The Bunch, an informal group of six of the UK's best independent wine merchants, were in London showing off their wares earlier this month, and as usual the hit rate was exceptionally high at a tasting full of bold and interesting choices. Here's a real bargain: a fragrant, berry-scented, Beaujolais-style red from a country where the wines are emerging from years in the doldrums. Bruno Fina Kebrilla Grillo, IGP Sicilia, Italy 2011 (£9.60, Tanners, tanners-wines.co.uk ) An utterly beguiling nose, which reminded me of crystallised oranges, lures you into this terrific dry white made from Sicily's grillo grape variety. Rich and deep in flavour but also zesty and incisive, it would be fabulous with a Moroccan-style chicken flavoured with oranges and coriander. Tanners' own recommendation – calamari – is pretty tempting, too. Domaine Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage Blanc, France 2011 (£19.25, Yapp Bros, yapp.co.uk ) The red has long been one of my favourite, and best-value, Rhône reds, but at The Bunch event the Dorset-based Yapp Bros decided to show off their white. I'm glad they did, because it's fabulously good: a classic blend of marsanne and roussanne, its flavours marry white peaches and red apples in a wine that is silk-textured, autumnal, fresh and lingering.
