This week's new events

LolliBop, London With a debut album to plug, Rastamouse will be hitting the LolliBop festival this weekend, so expect dulcet serenades from the Jamaican rodent detective at this one-off event for giggling under-10s in Regent's Park. Elsewhere, CBeebies' Charlie and Lola will be putting on a play, and Horrible Histories will be giving that healthy dose of educational scaremongering that seemingly delights all small children. A special YogaBugs session – face-painting and dressing up as a ladybird or caterpillar is optional – will offer a chance for over-excited souls to unwind a little. Regent's Park, NW1, Fri to 7 Aug, www.lollibopfestival.co.uk Camilla Apcar Nottingham Riverside Festival This family-friendly weekend festival takes visitors from the gentle puffing of steam engines to the sound and colour overload of Bollywood, with Nottingham Mela (which means "gathering" in Sanskrit) forming part of the festivities. This South Asian-themed leg of the event features plenty of danceable sounds, with bhangra beats, sessions of dhol drumming, and a set by the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, while Saturday night's firework display should raise the colour and sound levels even further. Sunday features a dragon boat race on the Trent and a charity duck race for the younger ones, with plenty of street theatre and workshops to keep them occupied in the meantime. Victoria Embankment, Fri to 7 Aug, nottinghamcity.gov.uk Iain Aitch Sacred In Transit, London Sacred, Chelsea Theatre's festival of experimental theatre, has been taking punters far beyond the genre's usual bounds for five years now with its performance artists, cabaret mavens and theatre companies. This one-day taster includes a photography workshop, a symposium by the Walking Artists Network, and the chance to hit the streets as an elastic-bound group of slow-moving flaneurs. Artist Amy Sharrock's remote-controlled mobile phone walk can be followed by the Ragroof Theatre tea dance, where tango, jive and foxtrot lessons are available. Chelsea Theatre, SW10, Sat, chelseatheatre.org.uk Skye Sherwin Out & about Caribbean Festival , Coventry, Saturday Twenty-first anniversary event, featuring traditional food, drink, arts, crafts and more.
