Manchester City sign Yaya Touré on five-year deal from Barcelona
Manchester City have confirmed that they have signed Yaya Touré from Barcelona on a five-year-deal. The Ivory Coast midfielder, who returned from the World Cup on Monday, is believed to have joined the Eastlands club for a fee of about £25m City have been pursuing Touré, who completed a medical at Eastlands this morning, for some time, but saw a deal held up by the uncertainty regarding the presidency at Barcelona. With that issue now resolved – Sandro Rosell took over from Joan Laporta prior to the World Cup – the transfer could be completed. Touré, who is joining his elder brother Kolo at City, won the Champions League with Barcelona as well as two La Liga titles. "Everyone knows Yaya is a player that we have admired for a long time, and we would like to welcome him to Manchester City," said the manager, Roberto Mancini. "He has played at the top level with Barcelona and I am sure his experience and ability will be very important for us." The 28-year-old will now go on a three-week holiday before joining up with his new team-mates. He is the third player City have signed this summer following the arrival of Jérôme Boateng and David Silva.
