Josh Schwartz to co-write US remake of Misfits
Josh Schwartz, the writer/producer behind The OC, Gossip Girl and Chuck, is on board for a US remake of the hit E4 asbo superheros drama Misfits. Schwartz will co-write the pilot for the US version of Misfits with the show's creator Howard Overman, before pitching it to American TV networks. Clerkenwell Films, the UK independent producer behind Misfits, has struck a development deal with Schwartz's production company, Warner Bros-backed Fake Empire. Schwartz and Overman will executive produce, along with Clerkenwell's chief executive Murray Ferguson and Petra Fried. The original UK version of Misfits has already proved popular with US viewers after being made available to stream online via Hulu. However, MTV's US remake of another successful E4 teen drama, Skins, was cancelled after one series. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
