Werder Bremen feel at home in the Champions League, says Klaus Allofs

Klaus Allofs, Werder Bremen's general manager, says his club no longer feel like "tourists" in the Champions League and is confident of progressing from Tottenham Hotspur's group, which also includes Internazionale, the competition's holders, and the Dutch champions, Twente. Werder Bremen host Spurs tomorrow evening and Allofs said: "It's a tough group but in the last seven years we have qualified for the Champions League six times. Look at the Uefa ranking, we're in ninth position – that is a sign of how well we did. "In our group are the champions, Inter, and Spurs, who did not finish in the top three of the league, but spent a lot of money. So it will be difficult to qualify for the next round. But we are confident because we have good players and the experience of European competitions." This is Spurs' inaugural season in the Champions League but Allofs, who won the Cup Winners' Cup as a players with Bremen in 1992, is unsure if their inexperience will prove a disadvantage. He added: "They have players who have played already [in the competition]. Experience is important – the club has to learn and go on but if you have the right team and the right moment you can go through without experience. "Our club learned a lot in the last six or seven years and made big steps forwards. In the beginning we were a little bit like tourists. I won't say it's now normal but we are now a bit more laid-back."
