Greater Manchester Police investigates memory stick theft

Greater Manchester Police is investigating a burglary at the home of a police officer in which a memory stick with information about police operations and the force was stolen. The service said that it was taking the loss very seriously and has a dedicated team of officers working to identify the burglars and recover the stick. Garry Shewan, assistant chief constable at the force, said: "Greater Manchester police is reinforcing to officers and staff the importance of keeping information secure at all times. We expect all officers and staff to adhere to rigorous standards with regard to confidential and sensitive documents. We are also conducting a thorough review of how we store information to ensure this does not happen again." The theft follows the loss of a memory stick belonging to Greater Manchester in September 2010. A member of the public found the device, which contained officer safety training documents.
