Press awards 2012: Lebedev's i in running for newspaper of the year
Alexander Lebedev's new 20p title i is one of six national titles up for the prestigious newspaper of the year award at the 2012 Press Awards. The others are the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Sunday Times and Times. The Guardian picked up the newspaper of the year award in 2011 for its WikiLeaks US embassy cables coverage. Shortlists for the other judges' awards – front page of the year, scoop of the year, news team, sports team and business and finance team – were also announced by Press Awards organiser the Society of Editors on Thursday. The shortlists for the general awards were announced on Friday , with the Times and Daily Mail leading the pack with 18 nominations apiece. Winners of the special prizes – the Cudlipp award, journalists' charity award and international journalist of the year – will be announced on the night of the ceremony next month. This year's Press Awards will be held on 20 March at London's Lancaster hotel.
